In Slovenia, the gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter increased significantly more than the average of eurozone countries. According to Eurostat, the growth was 0.7%, while the average for eurozone countries was 0.1%.

On an annual basis, economic growth in the euro area in the second quarter was 1.4% and 1.5% in the EU. In Slovenia, the GDP volume increased by 0.8% in this comparison, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia also reported on Thursday.

In the second quarter, private consumption had a positive impact on growth, increasing noticeably more than in previous quarters. The Ministry of Finance expected better statistical data on Slovenia’s economic growth for the second quarter. “From the perspective of measures that the state can take, the conditions for growth were met, in our opinion,” they stated. Among the reasons for the GDP acceleration, they also mentioned the reform of the wage system in the public sector. (August 14)
