Slovenian agricultural minister emphasized the importance of ensuring stability and safe food supply

Brussels – The Slovenian Minister of Agriculture Mateja Čalušić attended the EU Council meeting on agriculture and fisheries on Monday, where the discussion focused on the conditions in agriculture and protein sources. The minister emphasized that the EU’s priority must be to ensure stability, secure food supply, and fair incomes for farmers.
She also advocated for strengthening risk management mechanisms at the EU level and for more flexible implementation of environmental measures. She pointed out the importance of tailored solutions for small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises.
Among the topics of discussion were also protein sources for food and feed. According to the ministry, Slovenia has joined the call for the development of an ambitious European protein strategy that will connect environmental, agricultural, and research policies and promote demand for sustainably produced sources. According to the minister, the common goal is “a stable and resilient food system and greater strategic autonomy for the EU.”
Čalušić also met with the French Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Annie Genevard, with whom they discussed the common agricultural policy after 2028.
They advocated for the preservation of a sustainable European model of agriculture and emphasized the importance of a strong and adequately funded common agricultural policy, while also supporting simplifications for better accessibility of measures and greater flexibility for member states.
