Slovenia supports all efforts for a swift peace in Ukraine

Paris – Slovenia supports all efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine as soon as possible, the Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob said after the meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Paris. He added that the Paris declaration adopted at the meeting is the basis for achieving lasting peace.

“Today’s meeting and the Paris declaration are an important step not only towards achieving a ceasefire today, but above all towards ensuring peace that will last for future generations as well. Consensus was reached between the European side, the Euro-Atlantic allies, Ukraine and also the USA,” Golob said.

According to him, it is now up to the negotiators to complete the work and secure peace.

At the meeting in Paris, Ukraine’s allies agreed on solid security guarantees for Ukraine, which will take effect after a possible ceasefire. The USA would, for example, lead the mechanism for monitoring the ceasefire, and the leaders of France, the United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a declaration of intent on the deployment of forces in Ukraine.

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council Antonio Costa described the meeting of the allies in Paris as productive.

“Our joint statement sends a clear message. Together we stand by Ukraine, which faces a secure, peaceful and prosperous future,” von der Leyen wrote on X. “The EU will contribute to efforts to provide the security guarantees that Ukraine needs for any agreement on lasting peace. (…) Ukraine must be in the strongest possible position – before, during and after any ceasefire,” Costa posted on X. (6 January)
