Luxembourg – The Slovenian Minister of Agriculture Mateja Čalušić at the EU Council meeting on agriculture and fisheries in Luxembourg, on behalf of the Mediterranean member states united in the MED9 group, called for strengthening the management of climate and other risks in agriculture. She advocated for the development of innovative and flexible solutions for the resilience of European agriculture.
At the meeting, the minister presented a joint statement on behalf of the presidency of the MED9 group, which was adopted at the conference of agriculture ministers in early October and includes a call for strengthening efforts at the EU level to manage climate and other risks in agriculture.

The minister also highlighted the commitment of the MED9 countries to strengthen cooperation at the EU level and promote climate-smart practices that contribute to food security, sustainable use of water resources, rural vitality, and the competitiveness of the region.
In the discussion on the future Common Agricultural Policy in the financial perspective 2028-2034, she supported greater flexibility in the green architecture of the Common Agricultural Policy, as it allows member states to adapt measures and protective practices to local conditions, the ministry stated.
Čalušić also welcomed the recently presented strategy for generational renewal of European agriculture, as it strengthens support for young farmers and future agricultural operators at the union level. (October 28)
