Slovenia allocated nearly 152 million euros for development aid last year

Ljubljana – Slovenia has allocated 151.97 million euros or 0.23 percent of gross national income (GNI) for official development assistance in 2024, the government announced on Thursday based on preliminary data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In 2023, official development assistance reached 0.24 percent of GNI.
It has primarily increased funds for humanitarian aid, which amounted to 14.59 million euros in 2024, with the largest share directed to Ukraine due to the war and Palestine due to armed conflicts.
For multilateral development assistance, it allocated nearly 12 percent more than the previous year or 98.83 million euros. Of this, 86.70 million euros represented Slovenia’s share in the EU budget for development cooperation and emergency humanitarian response.
Funds for bilateral development cooperation, which amounted to 53.14 million euros in 2024, were primarily directed by Slovenia to priority geographical areas such as the countries of the Western Balkans, EU neighbors, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
For the Western Balkans, it allocated more than 39 percent or 21.10 million euros. The largest recipients were North Macedonia (7.71 million euros), Serbia (5.15 million euros), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (5.06 million euros). (April 17)
