Sharp statements after the US demand for Greenland

Stockholm – The US president Donald Trump continues to repeat his demand that Greenland should become part of the US.

On Monday, European leaders respond with sharp replies.

Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen takes a stand against Trump and urges the US to stop threatening a historically close ally that has “very clearly said that they are not for sale.”

Already on Sunday, Sweden’s prime minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his support on X: “Only Denmark and Greenland have the right to decide on issues that concern Denmark and Greenland. Sweden fully stands up for our neighboring country.”

The EU Commission announces that it expects its partner to adhere to the principle of territorial integrity.

“The EU will continue to uphold the principles of national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders,” says the Commission’s foreign policy spokesperson Anitta Hipper.

“These are universal principles, and we will not stop defending them, in particular if the territorial integrity of a member state in the European Union is called into question,” she says.
