Sali – Filipidou: Advancing the European agenda and strengthening good-neighbourly relations

Skopje – The Minister for European Affairs, Bekim Sali, held a meeting today with the Greek ambassador in the country, Sofia Filipidou, at which the priorities in the process of European integration and bilateral cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

At the meeting, as the Ministry for European Affairs announced, they discussed accelerating EU-related reforms and strengthening the role of the Ministry for European Affairs as the main coordinating body for the accession process, as well as the operationalization of the national structures for negotiations and for the reform agenda and the reform and growth mechanism.

Minister Sali emphasized the importance of maintaining the positive momentum in the EU enlargement policy and the need for concrete results in the implementation of the reform agenda, as well as the finalization of key planning documents and roadmaps in the area of the rule of law and public administration reform.

The two interlocutors discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, with special emphasis on the possibility of reactivating activities within the framework of the memorandum for accelerating the integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia into the EU (signed in April 2019) through the exchange of experience, expertise and knowledge for the implementation of EU policies.

In the context of the EU accession process, Minister Sali reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continue with the reforms and to fully align with the EU’s common foreign and security policy as a strong signal of the country’s strategic European orientation.

At the end of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to continue regular coordination and concrete cooperation towards advancing the European agenda and strengthening good-neighbourly relations. (14 January 2026)
