R. Raši: Let’s discuss the functioning of the EU, but we cannot gamble with the future of Slovakia

Bratislava – Not a single argument criticizing the EU can serve to gamble with the future of the Slovak Republic and discuss leaving the Union. This was stated by the Chairman of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Richard Raši (Hlas-SD) on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of Slovakia’s accession to the EU. He emphasized the need for cooperation between Slovakia and its economic and security partners. Raši added that this day also commemorates Labor Day. According to him, the message and content of both days intertwine and shape the values on which our modern society stands, TASR reports.
“Recently, we have been hearing statements that it is necessary to leave the EU, that it is outdated, ossified, too bureaucratic, lagging behind global powers. We can engage in dialogue about these arguments; after all, it is openly discussed at all international forums of the European Union, but I want to emphasize one thing. Not a single one of these arguments can serve to gamble with the future of the Slovak Republic and discuss leaving the EU,” Raši stated.
Such statements, according to him, unnecessarily complicate our position within the EU and undermine Slovakia’s image as a trustworthy partner in the Union.
The head of the NR SR emphasized that as a small state, we have an open economy. “Western investments dominate in our country, and we utilize funds to improve the quality of life in the regions. Statistics show that European money is changing the quality of life in our cities and municipalities for the better, as the state budget alone is not enough,” he reminded.
According to Raši, the European Union and Slovakia along with it face a whole range of challenges. It will have to address how to kickstart the economy, how not to experiment with green policies, how to support science and research, how to deal with migration, and how to ensure energy security while also ensuring Slovakia’s competitiveness with the world.
“Slovakia’s policy in these days must be cooperation with those who are our economic and security partners. Only in cooperation with these partners and through constructive dialogue without unnecessary invectives can we ensure the prosperity of the Slovak Republic,” Raši stated, adding that we must recognize these facts and be responsible in our decision-making.
