President Pirc Musar with EU ambassadors on the importance of expanding the union

Ljubljana – The President of the Republic Nataša Pirc Musar emphasized the importance of the union’s enlargement during a meeting with EU ambassadors in Slovenia on Monday, stating that it is in the political, security, and economic interest of the union. According to the president’s office, the EU must maintain credible and strategically oriented enlargement policies in the Western Balkans, according to the president.
“Enlargement is not only in the interest of candidate countries. It is in the political, security, and economic interest of the European Union as a whole,” Pirc Musar is convinced, having met with ambassadors during a regular meeting at the House of the European Union in Ljubljana.
She also touched on current crisis hotspots. “The European Union must remain a beacon of respect for international law, peaceful resolution of disputes, and human dignity even in times of rising crises. This is not just a value commitment, but a necessity,” she said, adding that the union must also have a seat at the table in future peace negotiations regarding Ukraine.
She emphasized that Slovenia will continue to actively support Ukraine in humanitarian and developmental areas. (June 23)
