President of Slovakia: The EU faces the challenge of gaining leadership in implementing technologies into practice

Bratislava/Turin – The European Union today faces the challenge not only of maintaining its position in the field of research but, above all, of gaining new leadership in the implementation of technologies into practice. This was stated by the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, during the Italian-Slovak startup conference LIFTT in Turin, TASR reports.

“We must realize that if we do not actively create, innovate, and support talents, others will share the future. We in Europe have what it takes to become leaders in innovation,” the president emphasized. He also warned that Europe should strive for as few unnecessary regulations as possible that hinder technological progress.

“We may not be able to compete with the strongest players in the development of new technologies. However, we can and should have a strong ambition to be leaders in their implementation, that is, in putting them into practice,” the president stated.

He also highlighted the potential of the European Research Area (ERA), which connects innovation, research, practice, and the business environment.

“Slovakia and Italy, as well as all of Europe, can together create an ecosystem that not only invents but also implements solutions with a global impact. The courage and vision of General Štefánik teach us that no border is an obstacle if we believe in a higher goal,” he said.

The president particularly appreciated the active involvement of Stefano Buono, a prominent Italian researcher and supporter of Slovak-Italian relations, who has become the new honorary consul of the Slovak Republic in Turin.

The Slovak head of state also urged the present representatives of startups not to be afraid to go their own way, to cross borders, and to create products that change the world for the better. “Just as General Štefánik believed in a united Europe, we today must believe in a united, innovative, and brave Europe,” the president emphasized.

Part of the president’s delegation in Turin included representatives of innovative companies and startups that represent the growing potential of Slovakia in the fields of research, technology, and sustainable solutions. These Slovak startups bring innovative solutions in various areas – from electromobility to artificial intelligence to modern medicine. (May 5)
