Poland: Macron calls on Nawrocki to continue building a “law-respecting” Europe

Paris – Emmanuel Macron called on the elected Polish president to strengthen “together the bond that unites Poland and France, in the spirit of the Treaty of Nancy,” signed in May between the two countries. “Let us continue to build a strong, independent, competitive Europe that respects the rule of law,” he wrote on X.
For his part, the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot congratulated Mr. Nawrocki, urging the nationalist leader to “work” with France and Germany “towards European sovereignty and strategic autonomy.”
The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for his part, called on Poland and Germany to “cooperate closely on the basis of democracy and the rule of law.”
The elected Polish president is an admirer of Donald Trump, whom he met at the White House shortly before the first round. Many of his supporters seek greater sovereignty for their country within the European Union. (June 2, 2025)
