Bucharest – The visit of the high official will focus on improving social inclusion, creating jobs, and strengthening local communities with the help of EU funds, announces the European Commission Representation in Romania.

During the visit, dialogues will take place with authorities and stakeholders in Romania to better support Romania’s economic growth and align the country’s priorities with the plans regarding the future EU budget.

This visit is part of the pan-European consultations conducted by the European Commission ahead of the presentation of the next long-term EU budget, scheduled for July of this year.

According to the agenda announced by the European Commission Representation, on April 24, Commissioner Serafin will begin his visit to Bucharest, where he will meet with the interim president of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, and with other ministers responsible for EU funds. The discussion will focus on how the funds provided by the European Union contribute to Romania’s development and will analyze Romania’s priorities for the future EU budget.

He will also meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Romania, Cătălin Predoiu, to discuss security, border protection, and migration management, with an emphasis on Romania’s essential role in protecting the EU’s external borders.

Commissioner Serafin will also discuss with businesspeople and investor groups in Romania to gather their opinions on how current EU funding operates. This dialogue aims to refine future funding instruments to better support Romania’s economy and industry.

On April 25, Commissioner Serafin will travel to Oradea, where he will visit important infrastructure projects, such as the County Hospital and Oradea Airport, which illustrate how European funds positively influence regional development.

The commissioner’s visit will conclude with a tour of the historic Oradea Fortress and the mobility corridor. Benefiting from significant investments from the EU, this site illustrates the Union’s commitment to preserving cultural landmarks and promoting regional tourism.

Commissioner Serafin‘s visit highlights the European Union’s ongoing commitment to promoting economic growth, social unity, and strengthening communities in Romania. (23.4.2025)
