PCB Suspends Players’ NOCs for Overseas T20 Leagues

Just one day after the heartbreaking defeat of Pakistan by India in the Asia Cup final, in a dramatic step, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended all No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) of those players who are not involved in overseas T20 leagues.

The ruling, declared by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed puts the lives of some of the leading players in jeopardy. Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan were all set to make their debuts in the Big Bash League (BBL), though their involvement is currently in limbo.

PCB has not officially given a reason, but the timing seems to be a strategic rethink after the team’s defeat. The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will commence in October, and the insiders reckon that the suspension is meant to ensure that the players give the domestic obligations full attention and remain fully accessible to the nation-building responsibilities.

The confusion also jeopardizes Pakistan participation in future international leagues such as the BBL and the ILT20 in the UAE where 18 Pakistani stars have been shortlisted in the auction to be held in October 1. The franchise owners especially in Australia and the UAE will now be forced to re-evaluate their squad strategies because Pakistani talent is still in limbo.
