PCB Announces Pakistan Squad for Historic South Africa Test Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the national team for the highly awaited two-match home Test series with South Africa, which will start on October 12 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Also, this series is of additional importance because it is the first series Pakistan will have in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 and the first to be hosted in Faisalabad in 17 years since international cricket was hosted there.
Shan Masood will remain in the team and give it a steady head, and the selectors have added the much-needed shot of youth with three uncapped players: all-rounder Asif Afridi, left-arm spinner Faisal Akram, and wicketkeeper-batter Rohail Nazir. Their choice reflects Pakistan’s concern in grooming the young talent and the depths of the squads before the next cycle of the World Test Championship.
The first Test will be held between October 12 and 16 in Lahore, and the second match will be between October 20 and 24 in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. In the case of South Africa, this is the first red-ball visit the country has made to Pakistan since January 2021, when they were defeated 2-0 by the hosts. Both teams will be keen to begin their World Test Championship tour, so fans will likely witness a battalion of high-quality and high-attendance matches.
After the Tests, action will be reduced to limited-overs. It will be followed by a three-match T20 International (T20I) representing the series between October 28 and November 1, beginning in Rawalpindi and then returning to Lahore.
Thus, the tour will be crowned by three matches of a One Day International (ODI) series between November 4 and 8, with all ODIs to be hosted in Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, as part of the historic cricketing resurrection of the city.
Pakistan is set to attract some proven performers and fresh talents; therefore, it hopes to protect the home soil and leave a statement in front of passionate home fans. The fans of cricket all over the world will be seated to watch this new exciting chapter being unfolded.
