Pakistan U19 Storm Into Asia Cup Semis
Pakistan Under-19 secured an overwhelming spot in semi-finals of the ACC Men U19 Asia Cup 2025 after crushing hosts United Arab Emirates by a margin of 70 to 1 in the ICC Academy on Tuesday.
Bating first upon winning the toss, Pakistan made a competitive performance of 241 for 9 in the 50 overs they had available which was led by a cool half-century by Ahmed Hussain. The right-hander was the stabilizer with a crucial 65 off 91 deliveries and the ability to bring together crucial alliances to give Pakistan a defendable total in a challenging surface.
Early stages of the innings were poor with the dismissal of Usman Khan and Ali Hassan Baloch but Hussain stabilized the innings with the help of Sameer Minhas, Farhan Yousaf and Huzaifa Ahsan. Hamza Zahoor contributed to the team with some useful late scores, 42 out of 51 balls, taking the total past 240. The UAE bowling attack was led by Yug Sharma who got three wickets while Naseem Khan gave early breakthroughs.
UAE responded with opener Ayaan Misbah on the chase in the positive way. Misbah knocked off 77 out of 74 balls successfully, hitting 12 boundaries and keeping the hosts in the game in the initial part of the innings. His run-out in the 24th over was however the turning point.
With the dismissal of Misbah, bowlers of Pakistan had even increased their grip on the game. Abdul Subhan gave UAE middle and lower order a blow and took 4 wickets in 7.5 over giving it to the UAE side at a mere cost of 31 runs. UAE were bowled out in 37.5 overs at 171 giving further assistance to Mohammad Sayyam, Momim Qamar and Ahmed Hussain.
This victory ensured that Pakistan secured their spot in the semi-finals and joined India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the knockout round. Choosing the final pairings of semi-finals will be determined once the final group match is complete between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
