Pakistan Asia Cup Finale Qualitification Depends on Net Run Rate

Pakistan is still in the hunt for the Asia Cup 2025 final, though their qualification opportunities have been complicated by the net run rate (NRR) now becoming a decisive factor. Even two consecutive wins in the remaining two matches of the Super Four stage may not secure a position in the title match, which will be played on September 26.
There is a possibility of India winning all three Super Four matches, Pakistan winning against Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka losing. This would result in three wins for India and the remaining three sides, at a draw of one game each. Then, NRR would have to decide on the second finalist.
The other permutation would have Pakistan winning both their matches, India defeating Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh defeating India. At that point, three teams would end with two wins each, and the decision would be referred to the calculators again. The easiest way for Pakistan to qualify is for India and Pakistan to win all their remaining games, and this would guarantee that they qualify without the problem of NRR.
Their loss to India on Sunday adds to Pakistan’s problems. Although they had a competitive 171-5, Pakistan could not defend its total, with Abhishek Sharma (74-39) and Shubman Gill (47-28) taking India to a six-wicket victory in under 18.5 overs, which further harmed Pakistan’s NRR.
In the other Super Four match of the day, Bangladesh won Sri Lanka by four wickets after a nail-biting match. Saif Hassan (61) and Towhid Hridoy (58) led their team to triumph with only one ball left. Thus, the outcome opened the qualification race up and promised that no run and no over would be in vain as the Super Four stage went to the climax.
