Netherlands reprimanded by EU for non-compliance with drinking water directive

BRUSSELS – The Netherlands must also better document how it wants and will promote access to clean drinking water.
The drinking water directive focuses on protecting water quality in the European Union, including against pollution from microplastics, for example. The directive also states that there must be enough clean tap water and that as little drinking water as possible should be wasted. EU member states must transpose this water directive into national legislation.
The Netherlands has two months to respond to the letter from Brussels. Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, and Portugal have also received a warning letter for not complying with the drinking water directive.
