Movement Freedom became a member of Alde

Ljubljana/Helsinki – The largest government party, the Freedom Movement, officially became a member of the European political family of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (Alde) in Helsinki on Saturday, as announced by the largest government party. They emphasize that this is “an important step towards greater involvement of Slovenia in European political currents.” This also confirms the party’s commitment to European values, they believe.

The meetings of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (Alde) were attended by the Secretary General of Freedom Matej Grah, the party’s Vice President and Member of Parliament Sara Žibrat, and European Parliament Member Irena Joveva.

Upon the party’s acceptance into Alde, Grah assured that Freedom enters the alliance as a partner with its vision for the future of Europe, which belongs to open, inclusive, and responsible politics. “Joining Alde is not just a symbolic move, but a clear commitment that Slovenia will actively shape the European future based on freedom, solidarity, and the rule of law,” Grah’s words were quoted in a press release from Freedom.

Žibrat is convinced that membership in Alde will be an opportunity for Freedom to transfer its reform momentum from Slovenia to the European framework. She also highlighted the work of European Commissioner Marte Kos in the European Union’s enlargement policy.

The European Liberal Party now unites 73 member parties from 41 European countries, as announced by the party upon confirming the membership of three new members on Saturday. Its Members of the European Parliament are part of the political group of liberals Renew Europe in the European Parliament. (June 28)
