Liverpool On Cusp Of 20th Title

Many had wondered what life would be like for Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s decision to move on from Anfield last summer but Dutchman Arne Slotted right into life at the club, and although many in the wider world of football thought that the 46 year old’s fantastic start would ultimately peter out, their consistency has remained largely phenomenal.

Particularly with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s fall from grace this season, it has long looked like the 2024/25 Premier League title would be returning to The Reds and in this Sunday’s clash with Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur side, a single point at the end of the 90 minutes would make them the mathematical winners with nearest chasers, Arsenal, already a full 12 points behind them.

Should they manage to lift the title, they would have done it with four games remaining in the league campaign and that would be some achievement indeed, and Slot was more than happy to acknowledge that during the build up to the game and he also spoke about the team having a ‘big responsibility’ to the fans to do just that following their last win coming back in the 2019/20 campaign when supporters were not allowed in stadiums because of the Covid pandemic.

With that success being their first top flight trophy in 30 years, naturally the fans felt cheated out of their proper celebrations and that is something that Slot is looking to rectify and he is determined that the celebrations will begin on home soil at this time of asking.

History and relative form would be in their favour here as no Tottenham team since way back in 2011 has tasted victory at Anfield, and although Spurs have done very well in their Europa League campaign and have reached the semi finals, they are languishing down in 16th place in the table and have lost 18 of their 33 matches so far this year, so the hosts would definitely consider themselves the favourites here.

Slot will also be looking to take advantage of the fact that Spurs will understandably have one eye on the upcoming semi final against Bodo/Glimt this coming Thursday as that will naturally be their greater priority given how the season has played out.

Given Liverpool’s dominance throughout the league games so far, they have long been expected to pick up the title and many would now expect them to do just that on Sunday afternoon, and most probably with another three points to boot.
