India vs Pakistan: Former Captain Stresses Calm Approach

Kapil Dev, the former India World Cup captain, advised fans and media not to make the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match a “big issue” and advised players to focus on their game.

Since the Asia Cup schedule was released, discussion has arisen about whether India and Pakistan should play cricket together considering their tense diplomatic relations. Dev told media on Thursday that players should focus on their game before the Asia Cup match against the green shirts.

“Just win. Playmakers should just play—no need to say more. The government will do its thing, and players should too.”

Pakistan-India last played a bilateral series in 2012–13. Due to political and security considerations, cricketing exchanges have been limited to ICC and ACC events.

The 17th Asia Cup is hosted by India, however tensions between the two neighbors have prevented both teams from competing on each other’s soil. The competition is being hosted in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE.

India won by nine wickets over the UAE, knocking them out for 57 in 79 balls and chasing the goal in 27 deliveries to start their title defence. After India’s opening, the 66-year-old observed, “The team is very good and has secured an impressive victory.” We hope they bring the trophy home.”

Before meeting India on Sunday, Pakistan will play Oman at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
