India Likely to Rest Key Stars
The team management of India is likely to bench a few of their senior players, such as Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, in the next three-match ODI series with New Zealand as they continue to prepare significant white-ball events in the future, especially the T20 World Cup.
According to the sources, Pandya and Bumrah are being rested so that they can cope with work and fitness when their return will be in the five-match T20I series after the ODIs. ODI announcing is perhaps in or about January 4 or 5.
Tour will be contested in the ODI series on January 11 in Baroda, January 14 in Rajkot and January 18 in Indore and then the teams will focus on T20Is which will be played starting January 21 in Nagpur.
Pandya, whose role is now limited to white-ball cricketing, is yet to play an ODI since the final of the Champions Trophy in March because of fitness issues. Bumrah, the player whose workload is heavily monitored, was last seen in an ODI at the 2023 world cup finale.
In order to fulfill the domestic participation criteria of BCCI, Pandya should lead Baroda in Vijay Hazare Trophy and may appear on January 3, 6 and 8 in matches in Rajkot.
Virat Kohli, in the meantime, will rejoin the penultimate Vijay Hazare Trophy league game of Delhi against Railways on January 6 and then join the national squad. Rohit Sharma has fulfilled his home assignment with the Mumbai team and will come straight to the ODI camp.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had just been unwell, should take a couple of domestic matches and then join the ODI squad on January 7. There is a question mark on the availability of Shreyas Iyer as he still heals after he was hit in the spleen.
