In the second stage of the Chopin Competition, 40 pianists from 14 countries will perform. The auditions will begin on Thursday with Jacky Zhang from the United Kingdom.

Every five years, all of Europe and the world look towards Warsaw, where the International Piano Competition named after Fryderyk Chopin takes place. It is one of the most prestigious musical events, gathering outstanding pianists from around the globe, attracting music lovers, and promoting new generations of interpreters of his works.

The organizer of the competition is the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute.

Fryderyk Chopin is widely regarded as one of the most important and well-known European composers, belonging to the cultural heritage of the European Union and all of Europe. His music, characterized by lyricism, emotional depth, and virtuosity, has permanently entered the canon of world classical music. Chopin’s works are regularly presented in the largest and most prestigious concert halls in Europe. His compositions can be heard, among others, at the Berlin Philharmonic, Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Royal Albert Hall, and Barbican Centre in London, Salle Pleyel and Paris Philharmonic in Paris, and the National Philharmonic in Warsaw.

The jury of the XIX International Piano Competition named after Fryderyk Chopin, chaired by American Garrick Ohlsson, has qualified 40 pianists for the second stage of this prestigious event. Among them are four Poles: Piotr Alexewicz, Adam Kałduński, Piotr Pawlak, and Yehuda Prokopowicz.
