Hungary / Foreign Ministry chief to Sikorski: we understand that you want a war between Russia and Europe
The Hungarian foreign minister Peter Szijjarto responded on Sunday to a post on X by the head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski, accusing him of expecting a war between Russia and Europe. The Polish minister had earlier stated, commenting on the words of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, that he deserved the Order of Lenin.
“We understand that you really want a war between Russia and Europe. We will not let ourselves be dragged into your war,” wrote Szijjarto, responding to the post by the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sikorski had earlier posted a recording showing a statement by the Hungarian prime minister, who described as a “declaration of war” Friday’s decision by the European Union to permanently freeze Russian assets deposited on the territory of the European Union. “Viktor has earned his Order of Lenin,” wrote the head of Polish diplomacy.
During Saturday’s so-called anti-war rally in Mohács, one of a series of meetings with voters ahead of next April’s parliamentary elections, Orban stated that “the seizure of hundreds of billions belonging to another state has never in history gone unanswered; it is a declaration of war.”
Friday’s agreement of the European Union changes the way decisions are made about Russian assets, removing the need to make decisions on this issue every six months with the consent of all capitals.
The government in Budapest stated that the change in decision-making on Russian assets is “the end of the rule of law in the European Union.” “In this way, the rule of law in the European Union is giving way to the rule of bureaucrats. In other words, a Brussels dictatorship has arrived,” assessed Prime Minister Orban on Friday. (13.12.2025)
