Sanju Samson demonstrated his form batting when he drove defending champions India to a huge score against England in the second semi-final of ICC Men T20 World Cup of 2026. It was a match played in Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
Making the wrong choice by England captain Harry Brook to field first, India made a mammoth contribution of 253/7 in their 20 overs. The innings began with a wobbly start after the left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma was sent back by the right-handed Will Jacks at the very beginning of the second over leaving India at 20 one.
The initial failure did not stop the process in India. Samson, and Ishan Kishan, made a good second-wicket stand of 97 runs in 44 the deliveries. Kishan also added a fast 39 with 18 balls and was caught by Adil Rashid.
Samson later combined efforts with the all rounder Shivam Dube who scored 43 more runs at the third wicket. Samson was later beaten by Will Jacks in the 14th over although he was the highest scorer with a fiery 89 out of only 42 hits, including seven sixes and eight fours.
Another small hiccup was that India lost their captain soon after the exit of Samson but the overall performance of their team made them have a clear cut but going into the second innings. The timely strike with aggression and timing of his strokes provided dominance to the bowling attack in England and it helped in underscoring the importance of Samson to the T20 world cup India.
This match makes Samson a reliable top-order batsman in times of crisis. His power hitting coupled with consistency skills were also hailed by fans and analysts themselves, as it has provided India with the momentum to get into the final.
