Green light for graphite mine in northern Sweden

Stockholm – The Swedish government has given the green light for what is described as a “strategically important graphite mine in Nunasvaara,” according to a press release.

The decision means that the company Talga AB now has permission to mine graphite in the area, which is located in the municipality of Kiruna.

According to the EU’s regulation on critical raw materials, the mine has been identified as a “strategic project,” according to the government.

“The graphite that Talga AB intends to produce is a key material in the manufacturing of batteries and the green transition to a fossil-free society,” says Minister of Energy and Business Ebba Busch in a comment.
