Foreign Minister Fajon in Armenia and Azerbaijan

Yerevan/Baku – Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon visited Armenia and Azerbaijan this week. The visit aims to encourage peace efforts between the two countries, which a month ago concluded negotiations and agreed on the final points of a peace agreement that is expected to officially end nearly four decades of conflict between them.
Fajon began her visit in the Armenian capital Yerevan, where she met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and welcomed Armenia’s pro-European orientation, according to the foreign ministry. She also met with the President of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonian.
On Thursday, Fajon then visited neighboring Azerbaijan, where she met with her counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov. She was received by President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Ali Asadov, and the Speaker of Parliament Sahiba Gafarova.
In Baku, Fajon supported efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and welcomed the confirmation of the draft peace agreement between the two countries. “We hope that both sides will sign the agreement as soon as possible, thus contributing to stability, peace, and more opportunities in the South Caucasus region,” she added.
