Fico rejected the criticism of the head of SNS for supporting the EU summit declaration on Ukraine

Brussels – Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized the chairman of the coalition SNS and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko on Thursday via a post on the social network Facebook for “attacking him out of absolute ignorance on fundamental foreign policy issues.” This was reported by the special correspondent of TASR.

Danko criticized that the Prime Minister supported the statement from the European Council summit in Brussels regarding Ukraine. According to his own words, he does not understand this approach.

“I do not understand what Andrej Danko is after. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán officially announced today at the European Council that he cannot support the conclusions regarding Ukraine because his government rejects Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. The other 26 EU countries, including Slovakia, support Ukraine’s European perspective, so they approved the relevant conclusions in this spirit,” wrote Fico.

The Slovak Prime Minister added that he has been fighting for the interests of the Slovak Republic in Brussels since the morning, especially in the field of energy. “It is sad that at home my coalition partner unjustifiably criticizes me instead of supporting me,” he stated.

Leaders of 26 EU member states expressed support on Thursday for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine, which should be based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law. They also agreed on the need to increase pressure on Russia through new sanctions and to continue assistance to Kyiv. Hungary was the only country to refuse to support the conclusions of the European Council. (June 26)
