Fajon: I expect the EU to take a stance that Israel violates human rights

Brussels – Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon expressed her expectation upon arrival at Monday’s meeting of the European Union (EU) foreign ministers that the EU will take a stance that Israel is violating human rights and that it will act accordingly in this regard. Among the possible measures, she mentioned trade sanctions and the freezing of parts of the EU-Israel association agreement.

“I will make it very clear to the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas that I expect the European Union to take a stance that Israel is violating human rights and that it will act accordingly in this regard,” Fajon said upon her arrival at the Brussels meeting.

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kallas announced on Monday that she would present the results of the review of the implementation of the association agreement between the EU and Israel to Israel. The aim is not to punish Israel for violations of the second article, but to concretely improve the situation for people in Gaza, she emphasized after the meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.
