Europe will find a solution to Iran’s nuclear program in 30 days

Europe now has 30 days to find a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear program.

This is stated by the EU’s foreign affairs chief, Kaja Kallas.

The announcement comes after Germany, France, and the United Kingdom triggered a special mechanism on Thursday, meaning that UN sanctions against Iran will come back into effect after 30 days.

This period should be utilized, says Kallas:

– We are entering a new phase of 30 days, where we really have the opportunity to find a diplomatic solution, says Kaja Kallas.

The announcement comes in connection with the informal meetings of the EU countries’ defense and foreign ministers in Copenhagen on Friday and Saturday.

Here, the issue of Iran’s nuclear program is on the agenda along with the situation in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine. Denmark is hosting the meetings due to its EU presidency.

The meetings come after Germany, France, and the United Kingdom initiated a 30-day process on Thursday aimed at reintroducing UN sanctions against Iran due to the country’s controversial nuclear program.

A step that has drawn criticism from Iran and is expected to increase tensions between Iran and Europe two months after Israel and the US bombed Iran.

In this context, Germany has reportedly asked its citizens to leave Iran and refrain from traveling there, according to the news agency Reuters.

The call comes to avoid German citizens being affected by possible retaliatory actions from Tehran.

This was stated by Germany’s foreign ministry on Thursday on the ministry’s website:

– As representatives of the Iranian government have repeatedly threatened with consequences in this matter, it cannot be ruled out that German interests and citizens will be affected by countermeasures in Iran, wrote Germany’s foreign ministry according to Reuters.

However, the criticism from Iran regarding the decision is not justified, believes Kaja Kallas.

– Iran has not met the conditions for a long time. Now we have 30 days to find a diplomatic solution, says Kaja Kallas.
