EU: The US withdrawal from a landmark climate treaty is “regrettable”
The withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC, CNUCC), a landmark climate treaty, is “regrettable,” reacted today the European Commissioner for Climate Wopke Hoekstra, after the decision made on Wednesday by Donald Trump to withdraw his country from it.
“The UNFCC is the pillar of global climate action. It brings countries together to support climate action, reduce emissions, adapt to climate change and monitor the progress being made.
The decision taken by the largest economy in the world and the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases globally to withdraw from this convention is regrettable and unfortunate,” wrote the European Commissioner on the LinkedIn network. (08/01/26)
