EU Supply Chain Act: German Minister of Economics refers to coalition agreement

Brussels – The German Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche is not actively pushing for the abolition of the European Supply Chain Act, unlike Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “The coalition agreement makes a very clear statement on this,” the politician said in Brussels when asked if she also supports the abolition of the EU directive.
Reiche stated that the coalition agreement between the two governing parties in Germany, CDU and SPD, stipulates that less bureaucracy is needed at both the European and German levels to implement European regulations into national law. “We are working on the implementation of this coalition agreement.” During his inaugural visit to Brussels, Merz advocated for overturning the EU law. The coalition agreement states that the EU Supply Chain Directive should be implemented with minimal bureaucracy.
European regulations must be such that the economy is not stifled, Reiche emphasized. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has made it very clear that the Commission sees it as its task to burden EU states and their citizens with fewer bureaucratic obligations. “It is urgently time for us to change course here,” said the Minister of Economics.
