EU postpones retaliatory tariffs against the USA

Brussels – The EU is postponing the planned countermeasures against the US in the tariff issue for six months.
The measures were set to take effect this week.
The spokesperson for the EU Commission on trade states in a statement that the EU and the US continue to cooperate to achieve a joint final document. This is in accordance with an agreement reached on July 27 between the Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump regarding import tariffs.
“With these goals in mind, the Commission will take the necessary steps to suspend the EU’s countermeasures against the US, which were set to take effect on August 7, for six months.”
The EU approved countermeasures against US tariffs worth over the equivalent of 1 trillion kronor in July, which could be implemented if no agreement was reached.
Despite a tariff agreement between the EU and the US being reached, a number of unresolved issues remain, including the question of tariffs on pharmaceuticals, where the EU and the US have yet to reach any agreement.
