EU Parliament discusses motions of no confidence against the Commission

Strasbourg (dpa) – EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen must once again face a discussion about votes of no confidence against her commission team on Monday evening, for the second time in a few months. Von der Leyen will participate in the debate among the members of parliament regarding the two no-confidence motions, said a spokesperson for the Commission. The Commission President can respond in the plenary to the speeches of the representatives of the factions.
The no-confidence motions were introduced by the right-wing PfE faction and the Left faction. The PfE group criticizes, among other things, von der Leyen’s climate and migration policies and accuses her of a lack of transparency and censorship. The Left accuses the Commission of not exerting enough pressure on the Israeli government regarding its military actions in light of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, it rejects the EU’s customs agreement with the USA because it favors the US side.
The vote on the motions will take place on Thursday. A sufficient majority for it is considered unlikely. In July, von der Leyen’s Commission survived an initial vote of no confidence. (October 5)
