EU greenlights Swedish plan for electric car subsidies
Brussels – The EU Commission gives the green light to Sweden’s social climate plan to support households threatened by rising transport costs.
“Sweden is leading the way with its new social climate plan, which addresses transport vulnerability in rural areas. This is excellent news for people who are eager to switch to electric transport,” writes Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra in a press release.
The plan includes support of up to 1,300 kronor per month for three years for households that buy or lease new or used electric cars.
The Commission’s yes means that Sweden can apply for a first payment from the EU’s Social Climate Fund during the first half of 2026.
The fund has been created within the framework of the EU’s “Green Deal” with the aim of helping households and areas that risk higher expenses due to the climate transition.
