EU Civil Protection in close contact with Albanian authorities to cope with extreme weather conditions
Heavy rainfall and snowfall have caused severe flooding in several counties in Albania, with Durrës and Vlora being the most affected.
While all state structures are on the ground and on full alert, the authorities have also activated the preventive evacuation plan in some areas, while this morning the Vjosa river in the Vlora county burst its banks.
The Delegation of the European Union expressed concern regarding the flooding situation in several areas of Albania, while informing that the EU Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (DG ECHO) is in close contact with the Albanian authorities and is sharing the relevant information and images from the Copernicus satellite.
“Together with the Member States, the European Union stands ready to support the Albanian people in coping with the extreme weather conditions, including through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism,” says the announcement of the Delegation of the European Union in Tirana. (8 January)
