EU Chief Diplomat: Israel should stop killings

Brussels (dpa) – The EU foreign affairs representative Kaja Kallas sharply criticized Israel’s actions regarding the aid centers in the Gaza Strip. On X, she wrote that the “killing of civilians” seeking help at distribution centers is “not justifiable.” In a conversation with Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, she reminded him of the agreements on humanitarian access for aid organizations and emphasized that the Israeli army must stop killing people at distribution points. If commitments are not upheld, “all options are on the table.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Saar confirmed a conversation with Kallas about the situation in the Gaza Strip. “I told her that Hamas is conducting a campaign of lies,” he explained on X. “It is Hamas that shoots and tortures civilians when they try to collect aid supplies.” He warned that the international community must not fall into the trap of the Islamist organization.
Von der Leyen: Images from Gaza are unbearable
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized: “Civilians must not be targets. Never.” The images from Gaza are unbearable, and Israel must keep its promises.
At the end of May, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), supported by Israel and the USA, began its work after a months-long Israeli blockade of aid deliveries. It distributes food at a few distribution centers. There are repeated reports of fatal incidents near GHF distribution points. The Israeli army is often accused of having fired shots. (July 22)
