EP President gives her thoughts on Gaza and Ukraine in enr interview

Journalists from the news agencies participating in the European Newsroom (enr) sat down with Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg to talk about her list of priorities that she wants the EU to tackle.

Speaking ahead of the State of the Union address by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Metsola stressed that citizens of the EU wanted “simpler rules, a roof over their heads, security and honesty from the MEPs”.

Metsola answered questions posed by journalists from nine agencies ranging from Spain to Bulgaria — and the topics discussed were equally diverse. The wide-ranging interview covered, among other things, the EU-US trade agreement, the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the cooperation between the political groups within the Parliament.

Regarding Gaza, the Maltese politician stressed that  “humanity must always remain the number one priority. And this Parliament has always defended humanity. We tend to forget that.” She added that MEPs were debating a resolution to be voted on this week.

Participating agencies included ANSA (Italy), Belga (Belgium), BTA (Bulgaria), CTK (Czechia), dpa (Germany), EFE, Europa Press (both Spain), LUSA (Portugal) and STA (Slovenia). Questions were also asked for colleagues from other enr agencies who could not be present.

The content of the interview and related material were made accessible to all enr agencies, allowing them to publish articles on their respective channels.

The enr also produced a Key Story based on the interview:
