EBRD in Albania approves a loan of 30 million euros for the railway line Durrës-Rogozhina from Corridor 8

Tirana – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will support the construction and electrification of the railway line Durrës-Rogozhina, part of Corridor 8, by granting Albania a loan of 30 million euros.
This is an additional loan following the 30 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and 60 million euros in investment grants and technical assistance from the EU through the investment framework for the Western Balkans, which were signed in April this year. The total intervention fund for this railway segment is 120.5 million euros, abcnews.al reported.
The strategic project includes the rehabilitation, completion, and electrification of approximately 34 kilometers of railway line between the port city of Durrës and Rogozhina in Albania, including the reconstruction of railway station facilities.
Once this project is completed, trains will be able to operate at speeds of up to 120 km/h. This marks an important step in Albania’s efforts to modernize its railway network, improve regional connectivity, and align with EU transport and environmental standards.
