Dovos Defense Company with first calls to companies by the end of October

Ljubljana – The newly established company for defense, security, and resilience, Dovos, which was founded in September by the Slovenian Sovereign Holding, will publish its first calls to companies for proposals for the industrialization of products in the field of defense, security, and resilience by the end of October. As stated by the assistant to the president of the SDH and chairman of the supervisory board of Dovos, Damir Črnčec, there is at least a decade-long cycle of investment in the defense industry ahead of Europe – even if the war in Ukraine stops, in his opinion, this will not happen for a long time.
Črnčec also reminded that the EU was not prepared or did not consider that it would have to face such a military threat as the war in Ukraine. Slovenia had a strong defense industry before 1991, but then this industry was neglected. “We thought there would be no threats,” he said. However, in his opinion, Slovenia understands that the world around it has changed. “Without security, there is nothing,” he said.
Črnčec stated that when establishing Dovos, they considered how to translate Slovenian knowledge invested in the defense industry into industrialization, which is the key idea of the company. “Some think we are rushing into this now. That is not true; we are actually very late,” he said.
He also expressed a desire for Slovenia to first use its systems and products in this field itself, and then market them in the European space and the NATO area. In his opinion, investing in critical infrastructure and resilience is a justified cost. Thus, the right path is not only strengthening profit but also investing in strategic technologies and critical infrastructure, he emphasized. (September 24)
