Czarzasty: Poland wants to actively participate in the process of building European resilience
The European defense community is becoming a reality, and the region of Central and Eastern Europe is gaining strategic importance, Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty emphasized on Wednesday during a meeting with the diplomatic corps. He added that Poland wants to actively participate in the process of building European resilience.
“We want a bold and assertive European Union, which has its own role to play in security matters; a secure European Union means a secure Poland,” Czarzasty said on Wednesday during a meeting with the diplomatic corps in the Sejm.
As he pointed out, “the European defense community is becoming a reality, and the region of Central and Eastern Europe is gaining strategic importance.” “Poland wants to actively participate in the process of building European resilience,” he stressed.
“We want to encourage all states that perceive threats in a similar way to us to cooperate. We are looking in a special way towards our partners from the Baltic and Nordic countries, with whom we are jointly strengthening the security of the eastern border,” said the Marshal of the Sejm.
At the same time – as he added – the Sejm wants to actively shape the debate on security through its own initiatives, to which it will extend invitations. “A conference on the new European security identity is the leading event that we plan to organize next year in Poland with the participation of the speakers of the parliaments of the European Union member states,” Czarzasty announced.
He conveyed that formal invitations to this event will be sent out soon.
“We also care about a significant intensification of parliamentary contacts with the United States Congress. We want to strengthen Poland’s image as a reliable and responsible ally and work for an active American presence in NATO,” said the Marshal.
In his view, “visits by Polish parliamentarians to the USA and visits by representatives of Congress to Poland, especially to the eastern border, are a tangible way of strengthening our allied relations.” “Only real and frequent interstate contacts are capable of building lasting bonds between us,” Czarzasty emphasized.
He pointed out that more than 80 bilateral friendship groups are currently operating in the Sejm. “All of them are open and ready to cooperate with your countries,” the Marshal stressed, addressing the participants of the meeting.
“I encourage you to carry out joint initiatives, but also to put forward your own ideas. Thank you very much for your presence in these difficult and new times,” he added. (28.01.26)
