“Cyber Balkans”, BE helps Albania in building cyber resilience

As Albania progresses on its path towards the European Union, it must continue to strengthen its cybersecurity systems.
This was stated by André Rizzo, head of the Political Section at the EU Delegation in Albania, during a conference within the framework of the “Cyber Balkans” project in Tirana.
The European Union, through the “Cyber Balkans” project, is working closely with Albanian institutions to build cyber resilience, enhance technical capacity, and ensure that no country in the region stands alone against growing threats.
“We are facing a high and continuous intensity of malicious cyber activities against the EU, its member states, and its partners. Improving cybersecurity is essential to ensure the resilience and security of the EU, especially as the Western Balkan countries move towards EU membership,” Rizzo assessed.
According to him, “the EU is currently supporting Albania and the countries in the region in building their cybersecurity capacities.”
Albania is an important participant in the “Cyber Balkans” initiative, a regional effort to enhance capabilities in cybersecurity and cooperation in the Western Balkans. Albania has hosted events such as the Western Balkan Cyber Camp to empower new cybersecurity professionals. The ‘Western Balkan Cyber Camp 2025’ was a three-day camp that brought together 60 young people from six Western Balkan countries, aiming to develop their technical and strategic skills in the field of cybersecurity.
Additionally, Albania is actively involved in EU projects aimed at increasing resilience to cyberattacks.
