Croatia has nominated Vujčić for Vice-President of the ECB

ZAGREB – The Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB) Boris Vujčić has been proposed as the candidate of the Republic of Croatia for Vice-President of the European Central Bank (ECB), the Croatian government reported on Thursday.
For the position of ECB Vice-President, instead of the Spaniard Luis de Guindos, whose term expires in May, at least five member states have so far proposed candidates.
In addition to Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania have proposed their candidates, while Portugal is considering proposing Mario Centeno as its candidate. The deadline for submitting candidacies is Friday, 9 January.
The Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) consists of the President, the Vice-President and four other members, who are appointed by the European Council. All members must be nationals of a euro area member state with a reputation and professional experience in the monetary or banking field, and they are appointed for a non-renewable term of eight years.
