Commissioner Roswall highlighted the importance of cooperation in flood safety in Slovenia

Ljubljana – European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience, and Competitive Circular Economy Jessika Roswall highlighted the importance of collaboration in designing measures to ensure flood safety during her visit to Slovenia. According to her, solutions must be nature-based.
“In these challenging times, collaboration is very important,” the commissioner emphasized in a press statement, adding that the focus should primarily be on safety and ensuring competitiveness. “The environment and climate go hand in hand with competitiveness,” she stated.
Slovenia, according to her, invests in these areas, and the recovery following the devastating floods in August 2023 is, in her view, very important. Droughts and floods will continue to occur in the future, so solutions must be nature-based, she stressed.
Commissioner Roswall observed measures to increase flood resilience on the Gradaščica River, and she also has a visit planned to a meadow in the Ljubljana Marshes and a farm in Gorenjska, which serves as an example of good practices in seeking sustainable solutions in protected areas.
Before her field visit, she met with the Slovenian Minister for the Environment, Climate, and Energy Bojan Kumr. According to the ministry’s announcement, they exchanged views on the current environmental priorities of the European Commission, focusing on the transition to a circular economy, improving air quality, financing environmental measures, and EU priorities within multilateral negotiations.
