Cities within the EU are investing more to reduce emissions

Stockholm – More than half of cities and municipalities within the EU plan to increase their climate investments to reduce emissions, according to a survey from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

1,002 municipalities in all 27 EU countries responded to the survey, and 56 percent indicated that they plan to make more investments to cut emissions.

“Municipalities across Europe show a strong commitment to the green transition,” says EIB’s chief economist Debora Revoltella in a press release.

About half of the municipalities and cities also plan to spend more money on adapting to manage the effects of climate change, such as protection against floods and fires.

Sweden’s capital Stockholm aims to be climate positive by 2030.
