Rassie Erasmus is many things to many people and you can now add nifty sharp-shooter to the list after he was caught on video nailing a difficult kick at goal on Sunday.

The Springboks have had its fair share of goal-kicking struggles in recent weeks, with Manie Libbok, Damian Willemse and Faf de Klerk all struggling to find form off the kicking tee.

That might all change now that Handre Pollard is back in the Springboks’ 33-man Rugby World Cup squad. But since he has also just made his comeback from injury, Pollard himself can be expected to be a little rusty in his first few outings.

On Sunday, Erasmus was filmed slotting an angled kick from about seven metres in from the touchline during the Springboks’ warm-up before the Test against Romania.

On Monday, Rassie Erasmus put an end to the rumours about him taking a top job at the Irish Rugby Union.

Speaking during a press conference in Paris, he categorically denied ever considering any kind of move to Ireland in the near future. 

“No, no, no,” he said. “There have been no talks and there is no truth in that. I am not sure where it started but definitely not. I haven’t chatted to them and I am definitely not following Jacques [Nienaber],” he said.
