Can Pakistan Openers Survive Bangladesh Test Pressure?

Abdullah Shafique and Azan Awais were also levelheaded in the first day of the second Pakistan v Bangladesh Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan bowlers were in a difficult situation in the short session, but managed to keep their composure.

Earlier Bangladesh posted a competitive 278 all out in 77 overs. They appeared to be in trouble at 116 for 6 after lunch. But Litton Das came up with a classy counter attacking shot to shift the course of the game. He picked up a classy 126 runs in 159 balls. He scored 16 runs off 16 deliveries and had two hits which were sixes. He also did a fine job of keeping the lower order together and got them to post a decent total.

Pakistan, in response, were only handed six overs to finish. The Pakistan bowlers dealt with the situation wisely. They played it safe and lived to see another day. Abdullah Shafique and Azan Awais scored 21 off four balls without getting anyone out.

Azan didn’t lose a wicket on 13 and Abdullah was not out on 9. Their collaboration was not huge but it definitely helped to establish a solid platform for the second day. The pitch provided some movement, however both batters were patient and had good judgment.

Pakistan will take to the field in the middle with 257 runs down. The big problem will be to establish long partnerships with a disciplined Bangladesh bowling attack. Day Two could see a quick change of pace to either side with early wickets.
