Brussels says it will proceed with its own tech regulations after Trump’s threat

BRUSSELS – Trump warned on the Truth Social platform about import tariffs and export restrictions for countries that impose additional taxes on American tech companies or regulate them with special legislation.
The Union has introduced stricter rules for tech companies in recent years, including fines imposed on American companies such as Apple, Meta, and Alphabet. The EU has “the right to regulate economic activities that align with our democratic values,” said the spokesperson.
In the trade deal on import tariffs that the US and the EU concluded this summer, no specific agreements were made regarding tech companies, the spokesperson emphasized. The EU plans to implement the trade deal as agreed and expects the US to do the same, according to the spokesman.
