Brnabić: SNS a reliable partner of EPP, we did not discuss exclusion in Brussels

BRUSSELS – The President of the Assembly of Serbia and a member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Ana Brnabić stated that during discussions in Brussels, she did not talk about the possible expulsion of SNS from the European People’s Party (EPP) and emphasized that SNS is a solid and reliable partner to the European People’s Party and that they have excellent relations and constant communication with the EPP. Brnabić responded to a journalist’s question about whether she had discussions in Brussels regarding the possible expulsion of SNS from the European People’s Party, after the president of the EPP parliamentary group in the European Parliament Manfred Weber previously stated that this would be discussed in the coming days because, as he noted, “EPP is not blind to the events in Serbia,” as well as to the question of whether SNS would eventually follow the example of Viktor Orbán, who left the EPP before the discussion about the expulsion of Fidesz due to the disrespect of the European and democratic values of that group.
“No. SNS is a solid, reliable partner to the European People’s Party, EPP. We have good, excellent relations, we have constant communication. I am, among other things, the international secretary of SNS and I have had quite a few discussions in the last few days. We talked, I also spoke now with the President of the European Parliament, who is also in the EPP about this, so we have no problem here. Once again, we are open to dialogue, open to discussions,” said Brnabić. She emphasized that it is important to have open discussions so that people understand what is happening. “Because they constantly hear one side, and that one side withholds important information from, for example, MEPs,” Brnabić noted.
She asked the blockers how it is possible that in their own country they “fight for justice and the rule of law and democracy” while at the same time having more than 23,500 unregistered gatherings. “So, not a single gathering in the country is registered, for every gathering you are breaking the law. But as soon as you enter the European Union, you register every gathering. And wait, how is it possible that in every EU member state, you accept and respect their laws, but do not respect one law in your own country,” Brnabić asked. She pointed out that this is one of the pieces of information that has been withheld and that perhaps those in Brussels did not have. “And some when they hear this information are surprised and astonished. And they say, wait, but we did not know that. And well, that is why it is important to have dialogue. And that is why I am here today,” emphasized the President of the Assembly of Serbia.
