Bringing ERD Closer: First ERD Academy Tour at TalTech Empowers Early-Career Scholars
On June 13, 2025, Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) proudly hosted the first-ever ERD Academy Tour, a one-day event dedicated to supporting early-career researchers in developing high-quality research in the field of entrepreneurship. Organized by Aki Harima, Merle Küttim, Jan Harima, and Basel Hammoda from TalTech’s Department of Business Administration, the event focused on the theme Advancing Research on Inclusive and Sustainable Entrepreneurial Ecosystems.
We were honored to welcome two distinguished guest speakers: Miruna Radu-Lefebvre, Editor-in-Chief of Entrepreneurship & Regional Development (ERD), and Ulla Hytti, Associate Editor of ERD. Their presence and generous engagement throughout the day created an open and encouraging atmosphere. Many participants shared that they usually feel hesitant to approach such prominent scholars at large conferences, but here, they had the rare opportunity to engage with them directly, ask questions, and receive individual feedback in an informal and collegial setting.
The workshop featured lively roundtable paper discussions covering a wide range of topics related to sustainable and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems. The submissions reflected rich diversity—not only in the themes addressed but also in terms of methodological approaches and geographical focuses—underscoring the global relevance of this research domain. Participants expressed that they felt more connected to the ERD journal, which had previously seemed distant. Now, many feel inspired and encouraged to submit their work to the journal in the future.
The program also included practical and insightful presentations: Miruna Radu-Lefebvre introduced the ERD journal and its editorial mission; Aki Harima offered strategic publishing advice tailored to the entrepreneurial ecosystem field; and Ulla Hytti shared her expert tips on academic writing in her talk “Crack the Code”.
The day concluded with interactive roundtable sessions where participants rotated between tables hosted by Miruna, Ulla, and Aki—allowing for deep conversations, exchange of ideas, and academic bonding.
Adding to the success of the day was the perfect Estonian summer weather: sunny skies and warm temperatures, showcasing Tallinn at its best. In the evening, participants gathered for an informal dinner in Telliskivi Creative City, a vibrant district known for its entrepreneurial energy, artistic flair, and hipster charm. It was the perfect setting to unwind, continue conversations, and build friendships beyond academia.
We are truly thrilled to witness the emergence of a passionate, globally engaged next generation of ERD scholars. Participants continue to stay in touch, fostering a growing sense of community.
This first ERD Academy Tour exemplifies ECSB’s commitment to creating inclusive, developmental spaces where early-career researchers can grow their networks, sharpen their ideas, and engage meaningfully with senior scholars. It strengthened the bonds within the ECSB community and created new bridges across institutions and borders. We look forward to seeing even more ECSB members benefit from future ERD Academy Tours.
