Blanár supported Denmark in relation to Greenland and thanked it for a successful presidency
Bratislava – On Thursday, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) spoke by phone with the head of Danish diplomacy Lars Lokke Rasmussen. On behalf of Slovakia, he expressed support to the Kingdom of Denmark in connection with the current situation regarding Greenland and thanked it for the constructive Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union. The communication department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed TASR about this.
“The Slovak Republic firmly insists on the necessity of observing international law and the obligations arising from the Charter of the United Nations, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity in every case without applying double standards. We reject violations of these principles,” declared Juraj Blanár.
At the same time, he appreciated the joint declaration of Denmark, France, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy in connection with Greenland, in which the representatives of the countries expressed support and the key importance of the security of the Arctic region.
Lars Lokke Rasmussen informed the head of Slovak diplomacy about the current developments and the planned meeting with the Secretary of State of the United States of America Marco Rubio. Blanár conveyed Slovakia’s support to Denmark.
“Greenland is part of the European Union, as well as the North Atlantic Alliance and, above all, it is part of the Kingdom of Denmark,” said the minister.
Blanár thanked his ministerial colleague for the constructive Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2025. “I appreciated Denmark’s pragmatic approach and support in defending Slovakia’s national interests, especially in connection with the REpower EU strategy, which is unacceptable for Slovakia,” said Blanár.
